sigh... twombly - fare thee well...

Cy Twombly Untitled 1983

sigh...
twombly -
fare thee well
exhaling your last breath
from your beloved city
R O M A

immortal now
your story
joins those whom you painted

sigh... we shall
never know
another Twombly...

of that which remains
every smudge, scratch, stroke,
gesture, drip
so immediate, so visceral
you will never be far

and i will be forever haunted

... happily

Cy Twombly Analyis of the Rose as Sentimental Despair [Part III] 1985

But because truly, being here is so much;
because everything here apparently needs us,
this fleeting world, which in some strange way keeps calling to us.
Us, the most fleeting of all.
Once for each thing.
Just once; no more.
And we too, just once.
And never again.
But to have been this once, completely , even if only once:
to have been at one with the earth,
seems beyond undoing.

Cy Twombly Coronation of Sesotris [Panel 8] 2000

Dawn points, and another day
Prepares for heat and silence.  Out at sea the dawn wind
Wrinkles and slides.  I am here
Or there, or elsewhere. In my beginning.
